Back Story...and the Why...
My name is Todd Oakley and I graduated from Springville Griffith Institute in 1986. I was blessed to play football for 3 years for Coach Mick Nugent. These seasons on the gridiron had a profound impact on my life. The last few years, Jim Prawel, Glenn Weber, and I have been getting together to catch up and play some rounds of golf together. During these outings we often reminisce about our time spent at SGI.
As you get older you come to the realization that life is an amazing journey. There are so many seasons in one’s life. It is how one navigates through these seasons that defines the type of person he or she will be. Lessons about life can be learned from many different people. These mentors can be our parents, teachers, and/or coaches. They have a profound impact on the course and trajectory of our life. They teach us tangible lessons which we carry with us forever.
Our Inspiration
Coach Nugent has been an incredible teacher, coach, mentor, and friend to each of us. He has shown us concrete examples of how to navigate through seasons in our life. Coach Nugent’s life lessons extended beyond the gridiron into the real game of life.
As mentioned, our navigational beacon can be influenced by many things during our life. Our faith, morals, and life lessons define our character. Our relationship with others also has a profound impact on the person we become. If we are fortunate, we cross paths with individuals who provide us with the wisdom, knowledge, and motivation to achieve success we could not accomplish by ourselves. These people in our lives become our mentors. They become the pillars in our life, and they are the foundation to shaping our path. Unanimously, Jim, Brian, Glenn and I realized that Coach Nugent has been that person in our lives.
